Statement on Water Row Rent Update

The Water Row Company have today issued a letter to tenants at the Water Row development confirming the cancellation of the 2025 rent increase.

The decision follows feedback from tenants, elected representatives, and other stakeholders. While the original rent increase was applied in line with regulatory processes, we recognise that we did not communicate changes clearly and did not strike the right balance between financial planning and affordability.

We are now taking the following steps:

  • The April 2025 rent increase has been cancelled and tenants will continue to pay the same rent as before.
  • A revised rent model will be developed based on what tenants were originally led to expect — a base rent, with amenity charges applied from the second year of tenancy.
  • Tenant consultation will begin in the coming weeks, with a view to implementing the revised model from April 2026, subject to broad tenant support.

We are grateful to the tenants who raised their concerns and to the elected members who advocated on their behalf. This is part of a wider effort to restore trust, improve transparency, and ensure Water Row remains a fair and sustainable place to live.
